Betting matches postponed and suspended
This is one of the questions players most often ask themselves: what happens to a bet when the game is paused, postponed or set to the table? First, there can be many reasons, such as bad weather, disorderly conduct, or other emergencies. So, let's try together to figure out what factors play a role in evaluating sports bets already made in the above cases. What happens to bets if a match is rescheduled?
Various bookmakers apply a general rule that provides for a refund if a match is postponed and not played within 72 hours of midnight following the day of the originally scheduled event.
In this regard, the rules relating to the regulation of fixed odds sports betting, and more precisely Article 6, paragraph 3 of the Ministerial Decree of March 1, 2006, n. 111:
A bet on a sporting event is considered void:
- a) when the event did not take place within 3 days after the date set in the official program;
In the case of single games, the bet is returned if the match is postponed for more than 3 days, as set by the official regulations. However, in the case of an accumulator, reference must be made to the provisions of paragraph 7, according to which the odds relating to an invalid event are reduced to 1.00:
If one or more events participating in the accumulator are invalid, the bet remains valid, and the odds equal to 1 (one) are assigned to the invalid event or events. The additions to the accumulator bet specified in clause 4 of article 9 are recalculated without taking into account events that have been assigned odds of 1 (one).
Let's see an example:
- You placed a €10 multi bet containing two events.
- 09.12.2021 Football Napoli - Juventus II (odds 2.65)
- 09.12.2021 Tennis Nadal - Federer 1 (odd 2.00)
Case 1: The football match between Napoli and Juventus has been postponed due to bad weather to 12/09/2021. However, the multiple bet will be considered valid as the match takes place within 72 hours of the original scheduled date.
Case 2: Napoli vs Juventus match postponed due to bad weather to 19/09/2021. The match is refundable as it will not be played within 3 days after the original scheduled date. According to the regulations, since the odds of canceled events in multi bets are reduced to 1.00, the entire bet will stand, but the odds of the Napoli - Juventus event will be 1.00.
What happens to bets if a match is suspended?
The regulations provide that in the event of a match being suspended, only a bet whose outcome or outcome was already determined during the match prior to the suspension will be considered valid.
In the case of bets on partial results and other facts related to a sporting event, the bet is in any case valid when the object of its result has already matured on the competition field, even if the event is suspended or canceled in subsequent moments.
What happens to bets when a sports referee gives a 3:0 penalty?
In this case, it is appropriate to distinguish between matches that are played regularly and matches that are not played.
In the first case, the result achieved on the field will be taken into account, and bets will be paid regularly. Thus, the decision of the sports referee does not affect the outcome of bets. If the match is suspended at the time of the decision of the sports referee, bets that have already matured on the field are paid, and bets that remain indeterminate are refunded.
If matches are placed on the table before they have been played all bets will be void.
